Trillion Trees

From crisis to capability: rebuilt nonprofit site now automates donations, sales, bookings, and memberships.

Building a digital ecosystem
for environmental impact at scale

When Shannon Wilson from Trillion Trees reached out to Lab 385 in May 2023, the timing presented a perfect opportunity for transformation. While an immediate technical situation with their Squarespace subscription created urgency, the real opportunity lay in unleashing the nonprofit's potential to scale their biodiversity and climate action mission across Australia.

Trillion Trees recognised the chance to evolve from manual processes to automated systems that would amplify their environmental impact. Their vision extended beyond fixing a website to creating a comprehensive digital platform that could support growing community engagement, streamline corporate partnerships, and expand their native plant nursery operations.

The organisation saw potential to transform sporadic large donations into diverse, sustainable revenue streams. They envisioned empowering their team to focus on environmental restoration rather than administrative tasks, while providing supporters with seamless ways to contribute to reforestation efforts. This digital transformation would position Trillion Trees as a leader in technology-enabled environmental action.

Measurable Environmental Impact

The transformation revolutionised how Trillion Trees operates and engages with their community. Where manual processes once limited growth, automated systems now enable the team to focus on their core mission of environmental restoration. The platform successfully processes diverse revenue streams including one-time donations, recurring memberships, carbon offset purchases, and native plant sales.
Corporate partnerships flourished through the new booking system. Companies can now independently schedule team planting days, receive automated invoicing 14 days before events, and access integrated safety documentation. This efficiency transformed what was once a time-intensive process into a seamless experience that encourages repeat engagement.
The native plant nursery emerged as a significant revenue generator through the e-commerce platform. With monthly clicks increasing to 1,340 from near zero and impressions reaching 45,500, the digital presence demonstrates strong community interest. The nursery page alone attracts 226 clicks monthly, while "Trillion Trees" searches increased by 47 clicks month-over-month.
Most importantly, the digital ecosystem positions Trillion Trees for sustainable growth. The foundation laid by Lab 385 enables continuous expansion of environmental programmes while maintaining operational efficiency. Every automated process translates to more trees planted, more habitat restored, and greater climate action across Australia.
